The online edition of the Northwest Herald reported at 11:08AM (updated at 2:04PM) that an elderly man was found dead outdoors just west of the Woodstock Square. The Woodstock Police were called about 7:00AM to Hayward Street and Calhoun Street.
Now, why is Undersheriff Andy Zinke of the sheriff's department sticking his nose into this and hogging all the credit in the Northwest Herald? And why is the Northwest Herald featuring Zinke, when Woodstock Police Department has its own chief and was investigating the death?
Was the Woodstock Police Department closed today? Was the chief gone? There were a lot of cars in the parking lot? Did the department rent a bus and take all the officers skiing for the holiday?
Zinke is at the sheriff's department. The sheriff's department handles crimes and other law-enforcement events in the County. Hayward & Calhoun is clearly within the jurisdiction of the Woodstock Police Department and nowhere near the County line.
Something is phony baloney here. Maybe it's just a preview of coming attractions and how the Northwest Herald will probably handle the election season coming our way later this year, when candidates file their petitions this fall to run for Sheriff.

Again... Where's Keith Nygren?
To be fair he didn't "stick his nose in", Woodstock Police Department covered their bases by calling in the Major Investigation Assistance Team of which Zinke is an elected officer. I suppose they could have told Woodstock they refuse to help, but that wouldn't quite be in the spirit of their commitment to help.
And isn't it the case that the lead investigatory agency gives out the information? If they have their hands full, then the media just has to wait. Should Zinke have referred any reporters back to WPD?
