Watch this address to a Senate Armed Services Subcommittee in 1991 by Gen. Robert H. Barrow, USMC (Ret.) from June 1991. That's 20+ years ago.
I wonder if Leon Panetta watched it. Probably not.
Watch Gen. Barrow's impassioned plea for Congress to retain control of whether women are put on the ground in infantry fighting positions. Gen. Barrow had 41 years of military service, in three wars, and was awarded the nation's second highest recognition for valor under combat conditions.
His points still make sense today. There are many places in the military for women. On-the-ground combat duty is not one of them.
