Knee-jerk reactions - alive & well in Illinois

Man, oh man. Look at the eagerness in the Illinois Senate to rip guns away from law-abiding citizens.

Illinois legislators can't figure out how to end homicides (506 in 2012) in Chicago (Chicago is still in Illinois, isn't it?), so their solution is "Take the guns away from the people who obey laws."

At 5:30PM yesterday Illinois Senators in a sub-committee jumped on bills and passed them, because the Democrats held the majority in the sub-committee. The bills could be voted on as early as today by the full Senate.

I'm sure each is well thought out, well worded, carefully considered, fully researched. Yeah, sure... Like about everything else that the Illinois legislature does.

What if all the law-abiding people in Illinois just packed up and left? Go on; abandon homes and jobs. Pack up household furnishings and guns. Move out-of-state. Just mail the deed on the house (that's underwater) back to the bank with a Good Luck note.

Let the criminals take over. Let Rahm Emanuel have his Chicago full of criminals and their illegal guns. He has his bodyguards; former Mayor Daley has his armed bodyguards (why?). I'm sure Gov. Pat Quinn has State Police bodyguards.

Many of the aldermen are packing. I wonder how many of them could hit the broadside of a barn, even if they were standing inside it.

Do Cullerton and Madigan have protection? Why? You and I don't.

These bills (HB0815 and HB1263) by Sen. Dan Kotowski (D-33 (Park Ridge)) and by Sen. Antonio Muñoz (D-1 (Chicago)), respectively, are nothing but a blatant attempt to seize the guns owned by law-abiding citizens. Those guys, and many of their buddies, are dangerous to your health.

Former Texas legislator Suzanna Gratia Hupp said it correctly. If you don't know her story, watch it below. Her parents were murdered in 1991. She had left her gun in her car, to avoid violating Texas law. The Second Amendment is to protect us from them (the legislators). She was referring to members of a Congressional sub-committee, but her words apply equally to Kotowski, Muñoz and their ilk.

My fax (his phone mailbox full)--to Kotowsi this AM: Senator Kotowski:

As a law-abiding Illinois citizen and American, I am extremely upset that you would take it upon yourself as a state legislator to do away with our Second Amendment rights. I respectfully demand that you cease and desist your attack on the United States Constitution. If we had had Conceal/Carry in Chicago, we would not have reached over 500 homicides last year. Wake up and realize that guns protect citizens. If you would like to take away citizens' guns, I hope you are prepared to not have any protection for yourself as a lawmaker.

We are paying attention and regardless of who lives in a district, Patriots across the state unite to support candidates for office who protect our rights and we work to replace those who don't.

Great post

In Illinois this is not a "knee jerk reaction". This is more like these vultures using what happened in Connecticut to justify what they have been wanting to do all along.

I have been a cop since 1978. I would not, even if ordered to do so enforce this tyrannical dictate.

I talked to appx, 30 coppers yesterday. Not one, nada, zilch, zero agreed with these idiots and they all said they would not take part in any confiscation plan.

These politicians should be THROWN OUT! With NO perks what so ever. They are trying to destroy OUR 2nd Amendment rights.

"A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed."

Thanks, Big Daddy and Mike. The problem is, what if you are ordered to do so? Let's say the President issues an order or the Governor issues an order, and then the Mayor and City Council tell the City Manager to tell the Police Chief to tell his officers to go and get the guns.

Will you say, "No, sir, that's an illegal order"? Will you get fired for insubordination? Or worse?

Right, Mav. But take out two of those commas. Then the meaning changes a little.

I think the final, ratified version reads: "A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed."

In a word Gus, YES!

I i recall correctly from a legal brief prepared by a law student at Valpariaso University every citizen was considered part of this "militia" at the time this was wriiten. Therefore all citizens would fall into this militia requirement, if it weee so.

Gus I have in fact gone one step further. I told my Chief diectly that if such an order came out I would refuse. I also told him that if ATF came looking for help Idoimg so I not only would refuse but would go so far as not to aid them if they found resistance to their actions. I think I suprised him but I mean't it and still do.0

Thank you, Mike. You are sticking your neck out, and I admire and thank you for doing so.

What Mike said. Plus one.

True gus but who is to say what "well regulated"mean't back then. The idea of "regulation" was repugnant to people back then. I believe the regulation was simply be ready to grab you rifle and go if needed.
