Leslie Schermerhorn is the Superintendent of the McHenry County Regional Office of Education (ROE), and she started a Facebook page in December at "McHenry County School Forum" (include the spaces, when you try to find this page on Facebook).
In one month there are only 29 Likes. To me, this means no one knows about it. How many thousands of parents and students are there in McHenry County?
I thought it had something to do with promoting increased safety in McHenry County schools. Obviously, not.
The schools obviously have not promoted it. Even the ROE has apparently not promoted it. Why not?
It would be a simple and inexpensive step to get a few thousand business cards printed with the Facebook page. Just so they are sure to include the spaces; if you run the name together, you won't find the page by searching on Facebook.
Have you noticed how Newtown is now old news? No one is talking about it.
Well, they are people who are concerned about improvements in safety. For my two cents' worth, it is not about having Code Red drills in schools! What was the atmosphere in Cary-Grove High School this morning? Reporters weren't allowed in to observe.
What was the reaction of students? When the cops showed up, were their weapons loaded? With live rounds? As they ran down the hallways in the school? Or did they unload (and check and re-check) weapons, and then enter with dummy rounds? What about their AR-15s? Were they loaded? Did they use "practice" weapons? Was MARV called out? Were their "hot" responses by Cary PD or the sheriff's department?
