Chiefs drop probe of Chief

Kiowa OH-58 helicopter
When a law enforcement officer is suspected of ethical violations involving a state-owned aircraft (helicopter), why should he get off the hook by resigning his position as an officer of a state association of his buddies.

Timothy Swanson is chief of police in Momence, Ill. And he also works for the Kankakee County Sheriff, although the article in the Chicago Tribune wasn't clear about his position with the sheriff department. And he was president of the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police.

He ran a police helicopter program from 2005-2012.

He resigned as president of the IACP, and the probe into his ethics fell apart. Why?

A short article in the Chicago Tribune on November 18 reported his resignation.

Why wouldn't the probe continue and, if wrongdoing was found, let prosecution begin.

The thin blue line survives!

As usual, Gus, you fill your slop bucket of a blog with half truths, innuendo and outright bullsh*t

There is nothing to indicate that he's gotten off the hook on anything? Everything I've read (other than your crap) suggests that the investigation of Swanson's activities remain under investigation by state and federal authorities. A Cook Co grand jury subpoenaed records of the firm/organization set up by Swanson and his buddy. Can you point to ANYTHING that says those investigations are now closed?

By an objective reading (even a SUBJECTIVE review by a SANE person with an axe to grind)of the actions reported in this case so far would tell one that the Illinois Assn of Chiefs began an ethics investigation into one of their members (certainly their right, certainly prudent under the circumstances) which was dropped when their target resigned his position and membership. Since their investigation is purely internal and there was no allegation that the "loss" to the Illinois Chiefs was anything other than the embarrassment of having this guy as their head (much like the embarrassment suffered by the people of Woodstock in having you act as their volunteer spokesman) what is there to investigate when he's no longer a member? Nothing! In fact, the news reported just that: They dropped the investigation since he was no longer a member. If he wants back in they will reopen it.

Like Rahm, Gus won't let a piece of mud dry up on the ground, he always must fling it at someone he feels deserving by Gus's standards - which are impossibly low.
