Red Ribbon Week Ceremony

The McHenry County State's Attorney's Office (SAO) hosted a Red Ribbon Week ceremony at the McHenry County Government Center this morning. Approximately 23 students and about 17 teachers and school staff persons were there. In addition to staff of the SAO, State's Attorney Lou Bianchi, First Assistant State's Attorney Tom Carroll, Judge Gordon Graham, and the Superintendent of the Regional Office of Education, Gene Goeglein, were present.

Students made presentations that addressed the importance of not using drugs. Some stressed the dangers, and other addressed the opportunities to be lost because of drug use. Judge Graham mentioned the importance of keeping Facebook and MySpace pages clear of drug references, because prospective employers and college recruiters read the pages of applicants.

Students from the following schools were represented today:

Heineman Middle School, Algonquin
Emmanuel Lutheran School
Marengo Middle School
Nippersink Middle School
Johnsburg Junior High School
St. Thomas the Apostle School
Spring Grove
Richmond Grade School

Stew Cohen, from Star 105.5, was present and recorded today's ceremony. No doubt he'll broadcast portions of today's program, or perhaps he'll use it as a topic on Northwest Spectrum on a Sunday at 6:00AM. Stew was quite popular with the students from Richmond Grade School (photo) after the program concluded.
