Boycott Christmas in October

After my carping about Halloween becoming a "national holiday", a reader reported that Christmas items are already being displayed at the Woodstock Menard's. And right he was.

If you don't like the display of Christmas items early in October or even in November, ask for the Store Manager. Tell him or her your opinion, ask him to forward your opinion to headquarters and ask for a written reply from headquarters. Consider not purchasing in any store that hauls Christmas items out onto the shelves so early in the Fall.

Maybe a consumer revolt can put a stop to this nonsense. Bahhh, humbug!

I agree totally! I hate commercialism. It is so sad to see people rushing around to buy things just to impress someone. After Christmas it all comes back. I prefer to give everyone socks and extra large bath towels. It's those things they just don't want to spend their own money on. I try to stay away from the stores this time of year.

I agree with Ellen. I love Christmas and everything about it, including the Christmas "season", with all the decorations, but who needs to be buying in October? And how many cutesy snowmen does one need? I think people get anxious for the season and when retailers put this stuff out so soon, people DO buy it because they get that warm, fuzzy Christmas spirit. Unfortunately, with all the bombardment of it (and the commercialism), they're sick of it by the time Christmas actually rolls around.
