On the agenda for Tuesday night's Woodstock City Council meeting is a public hearing at 7:00PM regarding "Adoption of the 2010 (Property) Tax Levy Ordinance for the City of Woodstock, McHenry County, Illinois."
This hearing will be Tuesday, December 7, 2010, at the Woodstock City Hall.
In keeping with the release of adequate information on which the citizenry might make a decision to attend a public hearing, only the topic is announced.
If you would like to read the proposed Ordinance before Tuesday evening's vote to approve it (that's a given, isn't it?), you can go to the Woodstock Public Library and read it and the other agenda items in the packet that will be found at the first floor reference desk. Or you can go to the City Manager's office at City Hall on Monday or Tuesday during regular business hours.
As you know, property valued have dropped in Woodstock, and residents are challenging property assessments. If the levy doesn't change (increase), City revenues will drop. When property values drop and residents are losing jobs (and not finding new ones), is this the right time to raise taxes?
Be sure to attend Tuesday's City Council meeting. Listen to the discussion and voice your opinion. In fact, read up on the ordinance ahead of time and get in touch with your Council representatives before the meeting. Be sure they know how you feel and what you want them to do.

Government does NOT have a revenue problem, it has a SPENDING problem. ALL levels of government are going to have to cut back and make due. The public is running dry. Get rid of Free cars and gas allowances and Freeze all salaries, and no more new amenities or programs like park projects that do not produce revenue until things turn around. No more new city structures, work with what you have and make small repairs. Work on the entitlements that have grown unsustainable and reign them in to a blue collar level. Who in government deserves more anyways. I could go on , but it would only make me angry!!!
