White Privilege in the U.S.A.

“White privilege is when you can get pregnant at seventeen like Bristol Palin and everyone is quick to insist that your life and that of your family is a personal matter, and that no one has a right to judge you or your parents, because “every family has challenges,” even as black and Latino families with similar “challenges” are regularly typified as irresponsible, pathological and arbiters of social decay.”

This quote is from This is Your Nation on White Privilege, by Tim Wise. The entire piece can be read at

A reader emailed me the following. Thank you for sending it.

I read your blog today about white privilege and looked at the links you set up. I don't know how you feel about NPR radio...but I listen to it everyday. I know they have an obvious left leaning...but then Fox news leans right....the important thing is to be aware of how your news leans so you can make educated conclusions yourself....I digress. is a great piece that Chicago Public Radio did yesterday about the Palin pregnancy. Thought you might enjoy it.
