On April 27, 2012, friends Mikayja Oliver, 8, and Desiree Mitchell, age 11, were bike-riding, when Mikayja was attacked by two pit bulls. Desiree tried to help her and then ran for help.
Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff Daniel Edwards honored Mikayja for “Courage” and honored Desiree for “Heroism”.
Now there's a sheriff who cares about people!
