Nygren and concealed carry

Where does Keith Nygren really stand on concealed carry?

Last January 21, when the McHenry County Right-to-Carry Association kicked off with a large forum in Lakemoor, Keith Nygren explained the position of the Illinois Sheriffs' Association without ever saying whether he was for or against concealed carry.

Was he on last night's agenda of speakers? No.

He showed up after the meeting started, fully expecting, I'm sure, to be recognized and allowed to speak. To get Lou Rofrano's attention, Keith sat right in the front row. And Lou let him speak. I think Keith missed Mike Mahon's remarks, but he got mine. Whether he "got" mine or not is another question.

Thankfully, Keith kept his remarks brief, as if appreciating the "opportunity." It was a politician's ploy - to show up without having confirmed his appearance and still expect to speak.

Now, where does he stand on concealed carry? His words were carefully chosen last night. What did he say?

"... that a year ago I (Keith) fully supported the concept of concealed carry." NOTE! He didn't say that he supported concealed carry; he said he supported the concept of concealed carry!

Would Keith Nygren want a county full of law-abiding citizens "packing heat", as Joe Walsh termed it?

Ha-ha-ha. You can stop laughing at any time now...

Hey Gus -

Your "speechifyin'" was great. You came off as forceful, detailed and credible in support of 2nd Ammendment Rights.

As a matter of fact, most of those candidates speaking came off as credible voices in support of ACTIVELY seeking to support and drive 2nd Ammendment recognition in Illinois law during the next 2 years.

Nygren, not so much. Mere promises in support of a "concept" is hardly a pledge of support in promoting an actual RIGHT guaranteed in the Bill of Rights. The Bill of Rights is NOT a concept!

I too, found Nygren's appearance at the meeting to be a typical incumbent's presumption - and worthy of scorn.

Being the election campaign season, with an overwhelming number of various groups hoping for the appearance of as many of the actual electoral hopefuls as possible, we had a number of addresses or statements from their campaigns in lieu of an address in the flesh. Acceptable.

But at least in every case, they WERE on the Agenda, granting Lou and the McHenry Right To Carry organization and those citizens attending the proper measure of respect for their concerns.

In contrast, Nygren decides he can just show up, as an afterthought, and be accommodated, regardless! Like any other candidate there, had he thought this issue to be important enough to him personally, or this slice of the electorate worthy of his cultivation, he could have RSVP'ed immediately, gotten on the Agenda, and if unavailable that evening, have at least sent an emmissary with a statement as many others did.

Instead, he relied on the presumption of his own perceived greatness due his current privilege of elected office.

It was apparent that Nygren has no concern for Second Ammendment Rights whatsoever. He simply showed at the last minute because Philpott and Mahon, his opponents in this election, would be showing up.

He obviously held back his enthusiasm and support for the issue at hand, and only caved at the last minute as an electoral consideration, NOT because he was or is a firm supporter of Second Ammendment Rights.
