Citizens' Review Board for MCSD

If I am elected Sheriff of McHenry County on November 2nd, I shall establish a Citizens' Review Board. This will be a committee, council, board or panel of citizens and law enforcement officers who will review certain operations of the Sheriff's Department and assist in creating solutions to any problems that are uncovered.

Exactly how it will function is yet to be determined, but the goal will be to improve transparency of the Department with the citizenry of McHenry County.

One of the first considerations might be to establish a feedback system for persons who come into contact with the Department, whether through interactions with deputies, corrections officers, or staff.

Confidentiality will be paramount in this feedback. If a citizen feels that the contact was not professional or courteous, he or she will be able to provide this feedback and know that it will be treated properly. Feedback might by electronic (internet-based) means, telephone, fax, or even personal interview. Respondents will be able to choose whether to reveal their identity or submit information through a confidential system.

Information will be used to improve operations and for training purposes. It will be protected and not used against anyone with a case pending in the department.

Ideas for developing this program will be invited from all segments of the population.
