C.L. family needs immediate help

A Crystal Lake family with four children needs immediate assistance to avoid having to move from their family home. Who knows of a legal channel to delay or halt foreclosure?

The family has a restructuring arrangement available on its mortgage, but the local Woodstock lawyer for the lender has drawn a line in the sand. His office was supposed to postpone or continue a court hearing last summer due to the homeowner's hospitalization and surgery on the day of the court hearing. Instead, the lawyer went to court and proceeded with legal action, contrary to a verbal agreement with the lawyer's office.

Since then the lendor's attorney has been uncooperative with the homeowner. Personally, I have some doubts about the homeowner's legal representation, since the lawyer is in Chicago and probably recognizes the cost of time and travel to come to McHenry County in person. Had he appeared back in June, the Woodstock lawyer never would have gotten away with the stunt he pulled.

Exactly what good is accomplished by refusing to work out a deal and cause yet one more foreclosure and empty house in McHenry County.

It appears the lender's office manager was not entirely honest with the homeowner over a second loan. Or maybe he was, and that's why he and his employer parted company.

I have urged the homeowner to consult with Prairie State Legal Service. I believe he has a legal remedy to block the Woodstock lawyer's plan to take his home.

Is there a lawyer in McHenry County who might help this homeowner?
