Charity Run to Woodstock?

Here's another reason to be at tonight's Woodstock City Council meeting...

On the agenda is consideration (wait! it says "Approval"...) for the "Care4 Breast Cancer 5K" to be held in Woodstock this year, rather than at Crystal Lake's Lippold Park.

This 5K is organized by and for the benefit of the Family Health Partnership Clinic, located right here in Woodstock. The FHPC serves McHenry County from the County seat. Wouldn't it make sense for the 5K run to be in Woodstock?

The run is proposed for Sunday, October 24, 2010, near Woodstock North High School and Merryman Fields (park) by WNHS. FHPC has learned of opposition to this 5K and will appreciate a strong turn-out of supporters tonight. And don't just show up (although that's good); plan to speak up.

It will be interesting to learn of the type of opposition. What could it be? That WNHS is "too far" away? Better to have the run on downtown streets around the Square? Where the merchants are? Or hold it on a Saturday, so that there could be more interference with traffic?

I recall a 10K in Denver, where traffic was adequately controlled by the many volunteers. And then there was the Bolder Boulder, which was a 10K on the streets of Boulder, Colorado. Hundreds (thousands?) of runners AND spectators, and no problems!

If you have any questions, please call FHPC's Cathy Patenaude at 815-334-8987, ext. 24. If you are unable to attend, please e-mail today your thoughts of support to cpatenaude@hpclinic.org

JFC!!! What could be the prob with holding a fun run??? Don't people have lives to worry about versus grip'n about something that's fun for athletes and non-athletes (me). I'd like to know what the opposition is too.
Perhaps one day, Woodstock will repeal it's anti-keg law and we can have a "Beer Run"! DOH!
