Why at County gas pump? black Kia 231 6790

Why would a privately-owned luxury car be stopped at the County Sheriff's Dept. gas pump on a Tuesday morning? Maybe because no one is watching?

A black Kia Amanti four-door sedan was at the Sheriff's Dept. garage gas pump at 10:20AM. I didn't actually see gas being pumped into it, but I did hear the clink of the closing of the fuel cover panel over the gas cap, and a man wearing an orange t-shirt and jeans deposited a bag of trash in the trash can by the pump. The car looked clean; had it been washed there?

The man in the orange t-shirt then drove into the parking lot between the County headquarters and the Health Department and parked in one of the parking spaces.

The car had Illinois passenger plate 231 6790 mounted on the back and no front license plate. Doesn't the owner know that Illinois is a two-plate state and that a license plate is required on the front?

Does anyone know whose car this is?

Just because it has regular Illinois plates doesn't mean its a privately owned car. WPD has an undercover car with regular Illinois plates, like you and me would have, going on patrol. Here you go again being one-sided and just out to prove the sheriff's department, thats right I spelled sheriff with one "r", is an evil enterprise. Did you inquire anything about this car before you made the assumption this individual was stealing gas from the county? You are in no way qualified to run anything in this county.

But Seriously said...

...Or their is always the possibility you are outing an undercover vehicle...

Hans, feeling a little defensive? Just tell us who owns the Kia?

If it was an official car, it would have been parked over in the reserved section. You are motivating me to inspect the fuel log at the garage, Hans. And maybe the logs for the service bays. I have heard that some non-County-owned vehicles are being worked on by mechanics on County time.

Could that possibly be? You mean, in McHenry County?

Let's hope that you did not just "out" an undercover vehicle. Won't you be so proud of yourself if your actions blow an investigation or, worse yet, get someone injured. You are amazing. I can't believe anyone as dumb as you could breath without being hooked up to life-support equipment.

Actually, Gus, they probably shouldn't be using the county pump with an undercover vehicle for the very reason that some crook or other moronic busy body such as yourself would pull a stupid stunt like this. Likewise, they wouldn't/shouldn't park in the reserved section for the police for the same reason. That you think they should once again shows your lack of knowledge about these things.

You can say all you want to try to defend your actions but when all is said and done the fact remains you're a nasty, clueless old man. I'd call you a "has been" but it's pretty obvious that you never were anything worthwhile.

Oh, you mean like a white Chevy Tahoe registered to a "Wilson" that is driven by a certain sheriff?

What was the name of that Tom Hanks' movie with "Wilson"? Oh, yes; Castaway.

Hey, I'm still thinking that the taxpayers might like to know how much gas they are buying for that white Tahoe and how many miles it is driven in a year.

It's only 13 miles from Keith's home to the office; that's 26 miles/day, or 130 miles/week. If he worked 45 weeks in a year (that'd be a good year), then 5,850 miles in a year. Think the County bills him for commuting mileage?

Any trips to Minocqua in the Tahoe? The service log at the garage ought to show mileage throughout the year. Can take-home vehicles be driven out-of-state on personal trips?

Aside from the fact that the sheriff doesn't really need a take-home vehicle (and a $75,000 one with heated leather seats, at that), I wonder what the total expense is to the taxpayers for his vehicle.

Toa, thanks for your support. Be sure to vote for me on or before Nov. 2. Your vote means a lot to me.

Toa said...

If I supported you, Gus, that would mean that I was as crazy as you and that's not the case. I hope you publish this one too so everyone can see how nicely YOU swerve and deflect. We go from a mystery vehicle (probably no mystery at all) to complaining about your perceived misuse (again, just conjecture on your part with absolutely no knowledge of any of the facts other than the car is assigned to the sheriff) of the sheriff's Tahoe.

Gus, This shows your ignorance as much as any other thread you have posted. Let’s play what if.

"What if" the plate on the Tahoe comes back to "WILSON?" So WHAT? The same will hold for most police plates that are not government plates. It is well known that the bad guys have access to license data bases. Since you ran a plate and it supposedly come back to WILSON I proved that point. To combat privacy the police use confidential plates which have fictitious registry.

"What if" you just OUTTED a cop working a case by your over zealous attempt to discredit the Sheriff. I agree with TOA that UC vehicles usually are parked away from the reserved parking, but none-the-less it was an idiotic thing to post.

Gus said...

Yeah, like all the bad guys are reading my blog...

Maybe I should run back over and park by it, then take a picture of the person getting in it at the end of the day. Or ask him who he is.

Let's play another "what if" game? What if it's owned by employee in the sheriff's department and it's his (or her) personal car? Now explain why it was at the gas pump.

But if you sit by it, you run the risk of somebody "glaring" at you and then you have to call the police or mommy or whomever and complain "He's looking at me! Make him stop, make him stop!" Better yet, I suppose that one of these days you are going to step in it and while thinking you're on a quest from god, or whomever, put your nose someplace where it really doesn't belong and some uninhibited, anti-social slug is going to wrap your nose around to the back of your head before he beats the cr*p out of you. I really would hate to see it happen but given your penchant for being nosy, it's gotta happen sooner or later.

Go file your damn FOIA and see what happens. Maybe you will expose some wrongdoing but at least keep your mouth shut until you know something to be a fact. IF this was a legitimate use you've possibly created untold problems for the undercover. What would waiting and trying to do it the right way have hurt?

Nearly everything that you peddle here is based on rumor, suspicion, or your half-assed hunches. Very little comes to fruition yet you seem quite content and capable of portraying these suspicions as fact without quite crossing over the line.

You are not stupid, just ignorant and prone to doing rash things. In your case common sense is anything BUT common.

at one point I thought you were the classic "want to be" or "hobby cop" who never goes anywhere without their scanner and spends hours in the bathroom with a Gall's catalog. Your reporting of the license number now puts you in an entirely different category.

Gus said...

Don't have a scanner. Don't know what a Gall's catalog is, but I can guess. I don't "hang out" at the S/O's gas pump, as one NWH commenter put it.

But I don't walk around with blinders on, either.

Gus said...

The comment here by Just (3:22PM) and by JustKidding on the NWH site (5:13PM) border on threats.

There are some people who are really, really worried about this election.

I suggested that your actions could result in the "outing" of an undercover car. Now, apparently, I'm proven right - as were others who felt the same way. In fact, probably every person, make that every SANE person, who read your blog thought the same way. Except, of course, yourself. To see you post as you have now posted once the sheriff's office draws the line at your shenanigans is further proof that you're either in need of psychological help or you're just a fool that's hell-bent on creating problems and possibly danger for law enforcement.

I didn't read Just's comments as being a threat, more like a caution. I can see where somebody like you, frustrated at law enforcement's inability to strike terror into the hearts of those vicious criminals who might drive 5 or 10 miles over the speed limit, fail to come to a complete stop in your presence, etc. might lead you to do something stupid like stopping and saying something to them or glaring at them or taking their picture and posting it here for all to ridicule them. There are a lot of strange people out there, look at yourself! One of them may feel threatened or angered by your actions and go ballistic on you. It happens all the time. If you pull that stuff, you have to be ready to have a face off with some guy (or gal<g)) who's a bigger idiot than you. Threat? I don't think so. A look into the future? more likely.

But Seriously said...

Gus,
I typically respect you but you have to be going over the edge if you think that you have been threatened. People are pointed out that you have put others in danger and in turn threatened other not threatening you. To take that comment in the Herald as a threat against you, you are stretching all credibility.

Gus said...

Toa (7:03PM), keep in mind that it was actually all of you and Zinke who "outed" the u/c car.

But Seriously said...

Umm...No Gus you outed that Undercover car...You and you alone. Any reasonable person would have realized that there was a real possibility this was an undercover. There was no way to cover it once you publicly outed it. Any criminal that had contact with this vehicle in the past would have known exactly what it was no matter the Sheriff's department explanation to save the officers cover. As soon as you posted it investigations were lost and criminal will likely stay free simply for officer safety.

Unknown said...

Gus, there you go projecting again. I did not out the u/c, you did. All I did was raise the possibility - the wholly LOGICAL possibility - that what you had done was foolish and dangerous.

Unfortunately, it turned out that I was correct and that you are a fool! To now place the onus on me for your actions would be akin to YOU playing with matches in a barn full of hay and for me to say "Gus, you fool, you're likely to cause a fire and burn that barn down" and then, when the barn DOES go up in smoke, say "Well, Toa, caused the fire because he said it might burn up."

Get help you are sick!

Gus said...

OK, But Seriously. Now, tell me and tell all who are reading this:

1. why was an undercover car fueled at the sheriff's department gas pump?

2. why was an undercover car parked in the parking lot at the McHenry County Government Center, which houses the Sheriff's Dept.?

Gus said...

So now readers know that Just and Toa are one and the same.

Anonymous said...

You are the one that outed it. According to your article, heres how anyone could come to the conclusion:

1. Black Kia
2. Spotted at McHenry County Government Center
3. Filling gas at county gas pump.
4. No plates in the front.

Now there are two conclusions to draw from this. Either it is an employee of the county filling up their personal car, or its is an undercover car. All other County vehicles have identifying marks on them. Which would you pick?
I think with my head not my a$$. I can't say the same for you.

well yeah great idea outing (or at least putting the vehicle out there to be outed)...but what I'm worried about is; why are undercover vehicles useing gov't pump stations? I'm no criminal mastermind but if i were worried who in my mob was U/C that might be a good place to look. the pump station, city hall, court house. idk maybe its just me but the U/C agent should prob not use a city pump station...or its just a cover up and somebody was just useing the pump for a personal vehicel...hmmmm which one sounds more easily legit?
