Shovel the emergency exit?

As I arrived at the Woodstock City Council meeting this evening, I passed by the foot of the emergency steps on the east side of City Hall. I had noticed during previous snows that the steps weren't being shoveled and, sure enough, they hadn't been shoveled during this week's snow.

While a fire or other emergency is not likely at City Hall, the emergency steps from the City Council chambers on the second floor might be needed. And, if they had been needed tonight, what injuries might have been caused to residents and Council members fleeing, let's say, a first- or second-floor fire?

No doubt the steps were icy as well as snow-covered.

Perhaps in the future the emergency steps will be shoveled, as are the sidewalks around City Hall.

Since you have all this free time why don't you do something about it and shovel it yourself. They have priorities to get the streets cleaned up first before dealing with your petty complaints.
