Tuition waivers for state employees' kids???

Will we ever learn the whole truth about pork in Illinois? Is there dirt and rot under every rock in Illinois?

Read yesterday's article in the The News-Gazette (serving east central Illinois) that starts out with "SPRINGFIELD – A bill that would have abolished the 50 percent tuition waivers that go to the children of public university employees is on hold after opponents included what the sponsor called "a poison pill."

Why in the world should the the children of public university employees get a 50% break on tuition? The salaries and benefits of university employees are becoming more public, and they are outrageous. Now we hear that they get a further break on tuition!

Senate Bill 1318 would have eliminated this pork, but it might be off the table now.

For the full story, go to www.news-gazette.com/news/education/2011-03-17/poison-pill-stalls-ui-tuition-waiver-abolition.html

Of course, now I wonder whether children of MCC faculty and employees might get a similar tuition break? Do they?
