NWH sets up look-alike Facebook banner

Check out (or, maybe, don't check out) the Facebook-style banner at the bottom of articles on certain webpages of Northwest Herald online. It's titled "Mailbook" and is styled to resemble the Facebook blue bar with red indicators that you have unread messages and notifications.

"You have one (1) message!" But, if you click on the "Open Message now" link, it starts to open some type of application called "get.whitesmoke.com". Uh-uh. No way! Sorry.

Without some explanation of what's going to happen, I'm not clicking on it or opening it. Surely, it wouldn't plant some spyware or virus on my computer, but I'm not taking chances. How about some fine print to tell readers what is going to happen?

The NWH is a rag. I dropped my subscription years ago and only read SOME stuff online. They have so much BLING on their site that it takes too long for pages to open. Unless you have 15MG download you're better off getting the Trib online or the Daily Herald. Both load quick and are easier to navigate.

The NWH is supposed to be the LOCAL paper and is usually scooped by the Trib, TV/Radio media or Daily Herald.
