Why should the City of Woodstock take a hard hit below the belt, when a criminal (okay, "alleged" criminal) is arrested in McHenry County?
A headline in today's Northwest Herald was "'Peeping Tom' arrest made in Woodstock." Thanks to a reader who sent me this article, along with a news story from WLS-AM. I had seen the article in this morning's paper and blew on by it after reading that the arrest was in the County.
On an arrest warrant deputies of the McHenry County Sheriff's Department went to 2020 Greenwood Road, in McHenry County, northeast of and outside the City Limits of Woodstock. That location is north of Charles Road, which is well outside Woodstock.
Sure, it has a Woodstock mailing address. And, sure, the McHenry County Sheriff's Department is located in Woodstock.
But, if Peeping Dustin was arrested at 2020 Greenwood Road, as reported in the wlsam.com story, then he wasn't arrested "in" Woodstock, as headlined by the Northwest Herald!
Woodstock often gets a bad rap in newspaper stories, because the local paper assigned the label "Woodstock" to stories connected to the sheriff's office. It doesn't seem to matter whether the crime happened in Crystal Lake or McHenry or Algonquin or Harvard or Marengo, the story ends up with a Woodstock label.

Please! The offender doesn't live "in" Woodstock; he lives in unincorporated McHenry County. The crimes didn't occur "in" Woodstock. Give Woodstock a break; okay? Just because the sheriff's office is here doesn't mean that Woodstock should get stuck with being the city identified with the crimes or the alleged criminal.
That is all you have to write about this story? How wrong the paper is for stating it happened in "Woodstock"? This creep is in the area and it is unsafe for the surrounding area of Woodstock. I commend the Sheriffs office for doing a great job.
If you live out of town do you say MCHENRY CO or UNincorporated Woodstock or do you say Harvard/ Marengo/ Woodstock/ Crystal Lake? People refer to their home as the mailing address except places like Bull Valley with out their own PO.

If you live within the city limits of Woodstock (Marengo, Crystal Lake, etc.), you say that you live "in" Woodstock (or whatever).
If you live outside the city limits, wouldn't you say that you live in McHenry County, near (Woodstock)?
Been living here well over 40 years and only lived INSIDE one municipal jurisdiction. If asked where I live I always cite the town. If the person needs clarification I can say the road or define it by saying a couple miles north of town etc. You’re too hung up on semantics. Such as “alleged”. I remember you have a hissy fit over that term also.
