You can tell that Democratic sheriff's candidate Mike Mahon and I are getting close to the truth about the Eric Woods' injury.
Today the Northwest Herald editorial board attacked Mike and me in on Page 6A of the print edition. The headline? "Politicizing an accident"
The editors don't "get" that this is not a political issue for Mike and me. It's an issue of deputy - employee - safety! It is being twisted into a political issue by the sheriff and Northwest Herald. Well, bring it on... How exciting!
How do deputies at the McHenry County Sheriff's Department feel about it?
The position of the editorial board raises quite a number of questions.
Why did it take until March 28 for the first article about Woods' injury to be published in the Northwest Herald?
Why isn't an investigative reporter at the Northwest Herald ripping apart the collaboration that obviously took place when reports of corrections officers were prepared?
Why isn't the editorial board hammering Nygren about failing to obtain written reports from Deputy Woods, Sgt. Embry and Lt. Miller?
The article says that "invesitgative reports should be examined." Right! The only problem is that there aren't any investigative reports!
There haven't been any "legitimate questions" about the incident asked within the sheriff's department! Or, if there have been, the questions and the answers weren't documented. Why not?
I'd like to thank the NWH for the Morning Chuckle, when it used "vitriolic", "whisper campaigns" and "gullible bloggers" in the editorial. If I ordered an extra subscription to the NWH, could I double my fun every morning?
Furthermore, I had not read until today that "officers purposely fired 'live ammunition' at steel targets." Where do you suppose the editors got that one?
And only the Northwest Herald has suggested that "Woods was nearly killed in the incident", and that was in today's article. I hadn't seen that one in print anywhere before today's editorial!!!
The desperation of the sheriff has spread to the Northwest Herald. This is the first clear sign in the Northwest Herald that Mike Mahon and I have meaningful campaigns against the long-time, and previously unchallenged, sheriff.

"Getting close to the truth..." Or much, much further away.
No, I don't think "further away." The NWH has been ignoring Mike and me.
You know that all we are asking is for the sheriff to do his job. If he had, back about March 16, this would be "old news" by now.
