Just what kind of jerks run ...

... the Chicago School District and the office of Illinois State Representative Monique Davis?

Davis was just elected to her 13th term as Illinois State Representative for the 27th District, which includes parts of the Chicago's Southwest Side and the suburbs of Blue Island, Alsip and Palos Heights. She rents an office, which may be at 1234 West 95th Street, Chicago, from the Chicago Public Schools system and hasn't paid rent for eight years or taxes on the office for 20 years.

What would happen to you, if you didn't pay rent for eight years or taxes for 20 years? Well, first, you'd never get a chance to not pay rent for eight years! You'd be out on the street.

So why didn't the landlord boot her out on her butt? Now Davis could owe as much as $1,000,000 in unpaid rent, taxes, interest and penalties. Think she'll ever pay?

What did she do with the money, if any, that she sucked up from the State of Illinois for office rent and expenses? Who was the Chicago Public School's employee who failed to blow the whistle on this a long time ago? Who were the CPS supervisors, managers, administrators who failed to carry through and evict her 2-3 months after she violated terms of her lease or when her rent was first unpaid? Who failed to catch that she hadn't paid real estate taxes for many, many years?

A CPS building would normally be tax-exempt but, once it began to lease/rent office space for non-educational purposes, it probably became subject to real estate taxes. How could taxes go on unpaid for so long?

Did someone know about it but fail to take action?

And what does Davis have to say about this? She told a Chicago Tribune reporter, "I'm not embarrassed. I'm not ashamed by this." Nice, huh?

Do you think that she, as an elected (and therefore, presumably, an honest) representative of The People, ought to promptly pay all her past due rent and rental obligations? Let her know at davismd@ilga.gov

Crooks. They're all crooks. Just like the crooks in Springfield padding pensions. State legislators like Jack Shafer get appointments to meaningless state offices. Jack Shafer was booted as a State Senator but then gets appointed to one of several state jobs. Banking Commission etc to ramp up his average earnings. Do the townships charge the supervisors for office space when 80% of their job is political?

School district superintendent in Chicago has a chauffer and armed police protection Chicago is the worse. Did you know that Chicago aldermen are allowed to carry concealed weapons but other city residents are forbidden from gun ownership? ( pending change due to SC decision)

Aim at things closer to home Gus. Why do we have 20 school districts in McHenry County?

http://www.mchenry.k12.il.us/school_directory.html#map

Each has its own superintendent, school board, board offices. administrative staff. WHY? With the cost of government being so big, why not consolidate. Instead of 20 bloated egos making $100k -$150K a year have one big district. If CHICAGO can have one district, why can't McHenry County.

Townships. Combine or eliminate townships. Little fiefdoms for political egos.

Park District Police, Conservation Police, MCC Police. Each with a chief and little baby chiefs below them.

Too much government!

Mr. Green,

You hit the nail it right on the head and you slammed it hard. It's kinda like England where you have a useless King and Queen only here in this country you have lots of kings and queens starting from the federal government right on down to the city level. We The People are the 'subjects' that allow them to live the good life while they rule against us. Doesn't make any difference who you vote into office as it never changes. Guess history does repeat itself.

I also agree. Bob Anderson tried and failed to get rid of townships. Maybe we should try again.

Look at all the wasted payroll, especially in the big townships like Algonquin, McHenry Nunda. Look at the BS in Grafton. Look at the whole Miller family working for the township in ALgonquin. In fact Anna Miller is double dipping both the Township and County. Bob Miller drives a Lincoln Navigator SUV with municipal plates. WASTE? Just a little.

Nobody should be able to hold two elected offices or at least nobody should be able to get two paychecks from different taxing bodies.

School districts are a mess. All are top heavy with big salary people that don't deserve that much money. I much like the idea of consolidating them.

Why do we have 24 county board members? How much do they make? Someone here should know.

County Board is a part time job. Why not have four districts and 3 from each for a total of 12. Cut half the board and send them packing.

I read somewhere that Illinois has more taxing units of government and more levels of government than any other state in the United State.

More government equals more government jobs and more cronyism. When I lived in Florida we had the State and the county. Our town was about 25,000 and the Sheriff patrolled us, in fact I don’t think anyone except maybe a really big towns maybe over well over 25,000 had city police. Here it seems like little area has its own police which seems to me like just a ticket business. School districts overlap. Here the same area may have a superintendent for the grade school and another for the high school, That’s waste. \

I’ve been here almost 10 years and I can’t wait to move back.
