What Zinke's 12/3/10 letter asked for

On December 3, 2010, McHenry County Undersheriff Andy Zinke wrote to the FBI and made certain requests pertaining to Deputy Scott Milliman. An image of the letter was published on this blog earlier this week, after it was obtained from the FBI through a Freedom of Information Act request.

Several readers have indicated that the wording is hard to read. Just in case your tired, old eyes can’t read the online image of the letter (mine can’t, either), here is how the letter read:

                            [McHenry County Sheriff’s Office letterhead]

December 3, 2010

SAC Robert D. Grant
2111 W. Roosevelt Road
Chicago, IL 60608

RE:                           Scott A. Milliman, Sr. m/w 01/17/1961
                                  (Address, phone removed by Gus)

Dear SAC Grant,

In the past several weeks our office has been notified of an employee (Deputy Sheriff Scott Milliman) who is alleging numerous crimes being committed by Sheriff Keith Nygren. The allegations range from corruption, mortgage fraud, trafficking illegal aliens and soliciting murder. I assure you these allegations are untrue. Scott Milliman is a likeable person with a long history of discontent. He suffered brain cancer several years ago, and we believe he may be experiencing delusional behavior due to that previous illness. However, his allegations have been posted to area “bloggers” and are in violation of general orders as well as putting the integrity of him and our office in question.

On November 23, 2010, Scott Milliman went on record for a court ordered deposition to discuss an unrelated civil matter. To our attorney’s dismay Scott claimed that Sheriff Nygren asked him to murder a local “blogger” and further claimed that Sheriff Nygren asked him to kill a political opponent 12 years ago. He then went on to claim sheriff Nygren operates an illegal alien smuggling ring, as well as mortgage fraud scam. Our attorneys immediately notified us of his statements. He further related that he reported these crimes to two local FBI Agents.

I would greatly appreciate the opportunity to confirm or see any reports and/or obtain copies of any reports your office may have as a result of any contacts you may have had with Scott Milliman. These reports will help us with an independent internal investigation and help to further clarify or exonerate Scott Milliman from his own statements. The information obtained will remain confidential and not [sic] released to anyone further, without your expressed [sic] authorization.

I have worked closely with members of your Rockford field office for several years. Please feel free to verify my working relationship with your office. If you have any questions or concerns that I can address, please call me. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

[The signature block and title were redacted by the FBI. On January 4, 2011, ASAC Angela Byers replied to Undersheriff Zinke and referenced his “…December 3, 2010, letter requesting reports, if any, of information provided to the FBI by Deputy Sheriff Scott Milliman…”]
