You'd think that Woodstock is in the Deep South or something, because of all the concerns about snow and travel. It's winter! What happens in winter? It snows. Temperatures drop.
I'm concerned about the nation of wimps being raised. Instead of teaching children personal responsibility about dressing warmly, wearing appropriate footwear, gloves/mittens and headgear, schools close and kids stay home.
And what do they do while they are away from school? They go outside and play. In the cold. In the snow.
When I first moved to Colorado in 1970, I was fortunate enough to have a neighbor who gave me good advice: dress warmly, even though you'll be traveling in your car. Carry extra blankets, water, snacks. Then, if your car stalled in winter weather, you'd last until help arrived.

So, if kids are taught responsibility about dressing warmly, etc.....the schools wouldn't close?
No, they'd go out to the bus stop and stand in the cold, waiting for the bus. If it happened to be running a little late, they'd be warm enough.
Where's your sense of humor? Lose it in the Bore War? (misspelling intentional). The manner in which your quoted statement is worded makes it seem as if ......sigh....never mind.
p.s. The schools close because the roads are not safe for the buses to drive on. I don't think it has to do with whether the students have mittens and boots on their appendadges. wth
