United Way appears to support Nygren

While searching for the correct name of the United Way's McHenry County Volunteer Center today, I landed on the homepage at www.volunteermchenrycounty.org/

On that homepage are listed upcoming trainings and events of area charitable organizations, such as Turning Point (listed twice for the same event), Pedal for PADS, and HAHS.

But also listed is incumbent McHenry County Sheriff Keith Nygren's "annual barbecue fundraiser" at Seven Acres in Union. The contact person is Geri Davis, whose listed phone number is Republican headquarters for McHenry County. Because of this contact and the political campaign that is heating up in McHenry County, my guess is that this "fundraiser" is Nygren's political bankrolling effort and that it is not a fundraiser for charities in McHenry County.

If it is, indeed, a political fundraiser, does it really belong on the United Way's website?

I have learned that the calendar on the United Way website is a "Community Calendar." It is a calendar that is open to anyone for any purpose as long as it is not hurtful or abusive.

The calendar brings people to their website, where the United Way hopes that individuals will learn how they can help the community of their choice. The calendar is not limited to non-profit events, because they wish to be opening doors to people that aren't aware of the volunteer center.

If you have an event to promote, non-profit or not, submit your event for that calendar.

So your whole point of the article is now moot! You should remove this article. Better yet, you shouldn't have posted it without ALL the facts.....like you often do!

Ya know, if Nygren wins the election, we're doomed. If YOU win the election, we're doomed II!!! DOH!
