Within minutes of yesterday's plane crash near Lake in the Hill Airport the Northwest Herald named the owner of the aircraft.
Yet the paper hasn't reported the name of the owner of the vehicle involved in a late Tuesday night single vehicle crash west of Huntley that killed one and put three kids in the hospital.
This morning's print edition of the Northwest Herald states that a call to the McHenry County Sheriff's Department was not returned on Thursday. Who is the reporter calling? The reporting deputy? His sergeant? The senior traffic investigator? The Public Information Officer? Cmdr. Miller, head of patrol? The Undersheriff? The Sheriff? Nobody is calling back?
Naming the owner of the car doesn't necessarily identify the driver. The owner's name was known within minutes of the arrival of the first deputy at the crash scene. Deputies have had plenty of time to trace activities of the group earlier that evening and to identify those persons in contact with the occupants of the car. Where had they been? Where were they going?
How fast was the vehicle going? The article didn't even say whether the vehicle ran off the road to the left or right, or whether any other vehicles were in the area? How was the crash reported? Did someone see or hear it? Or did another driver just come upon the wreck and call it it?
Presumably, toxicology reports are in the works for all four occupants.
The purpose of these questions? Maybe they will cause readers to pay closer attention to where their kids are and in whose company they are.
Tell your kids - If you feel your life is in danger, demand that the driver stop. Tell your kids to get out and call you for a ride.
