Endangered and Missing? or not?

On Monday I wrote about the website of the Illinois State Police for Missing Endangered Adults.

The website is at www.isp.state.il.us/crime/missing.cfm or, if you don't like to click on links, go to a search engine, such as Google, and search for "Illinois State Police Missing Adults."

Beth Bentley is a missing endangered adult. On November 11, 2010, the Woodstock Police Department issued its third version of the posting as "Missing Adult - Endangered."

This week I addressed the Woodstock Police Department about why Beth Bentley is not listed on the Illinois State Police website for Missing Endangered Adults.

The answer?

"Beth has been entered on the following:
LEADS
NCIC
National Center for Missing and Exploited Children
Findthemissing.org
And (the Department understands) that family members have entered Beth on the CueCenter missing website."

But where is the answer to my question? Why isn't Beth listed on the Illinois State Police website for Missing Endangered Adults???

And why would she, age 41 when she went missing, be listed on the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children? Hint: if you go to that website at http://www.missingkids.com/, you won't find Beth.

I wrote to the Illinois State Police to ask how a missing person gets listed on their website. Here's their reply:

"To list a person on the ISP website as a missing person, the investigative agency has to complete a request and submit supporting documentation.  That request is processed through chain of command for approval before posting by the website administration."

Woodstock P.D. is the investigative agency.

Now, the Woodstock Police Department is not going to do anything on the Beth Bentley case just because I ask them to. So, who should ask? Who should insist?

What the hell kind of outcry is it going to take around here?

Indeed.

that's really shocking and very disturbing that Woodstock P.D. has not yet done this.

It is getting very frustrating to know just how many missing loved ones go missing each day and far too many police departments are not utilizing every possible avenue and resource to help get the message out to the public. Do they not want to solve crimes? Police have long said that their duties are to "protect and serve" but part of protecting is PREVENTING and part of preventing crimes is solving existing ones. The family of Beth needs to demand that her information needs to be entered. We at LostNMissing also have Beth registered and a number of other agencies do, as well..however...if the Illinois state police cannot simply add her to a website...then the public does not always know about outside non-profit agencies that assist the families of missing. The public NEEDS to know. Someone may have information. The general public does not surf online websites to look for missing people. Shame on Illinois..of all states they have a very high rate of missing loved ones and they need to start becoming more proactive in their searches, media relations and utilizing all possible means available.

Boy, this is just so wrong! Maybe the husband does not want her to be found. I wonder why?

We I went to the Ill. sight all the cases are from the 90's. Why is this? Has no one else went missing since then? We know that isn't true. But why such a long gap of time before a person is considered missing? And what does it take to get all the officals involved? Is there so much crime that they can't or won't gather these agencies together and start working together? Beth isn't the only one in ILL. that is missing. What do we do to change adult missing person's and make them sit up and take notice? How does one become a missing person that they are interested in?
Beth was reported missing right away. Since her family did not know where she had been she was reported with Woodstock Police. They were the one's that finally got the truth where Beth was. Since that time their hands have been basically tied because of the area that Beth supposely went missing. Where do we start looking? Mt. Vernon? Or somewhere inbetween? How does anyone know where to look? And why the long pause of Mt. Vernon officals and how they are working with Woodstock? Many of the Mt. Vernon officals have said off record that Beth went missing of her own accord. They won't make a public statement to this as a fact but many people have told us that this is what Mt. Vernon is saying to them. What about the friends that Beth went with? What if anything have they found out? Have they brought these people in and questioned all of them? State Police are there now three agenices working together? Are they questioning everyone that had seen Beth? It has been almost ten months and we don't have many answers except Beth is still missing. All sorts of rumors and finger pointing and yelling and screaming with no results. How do we pool our resources together and work together to help find Beth? This blog along with Lostnmissing helps. Gus keeps spreading the word and Lostnmissing have helped by saying what the rest of us can't or don't know how to say. How can we say this without insulting every single person or blaming everyone? We just want the basic's. We want the people with Beth to answer questions to the best of their abiltiy with the police. We want this investigated fully and completely. We want to know that these people are completely honest about what happened that weekend. I want to know that Beth was dropped off at the train station. I want to believe her friends. I also want to know what happened to Beth. I want the police to bring these people in and ask them and find the truth. That way we can move on to another area instead of the focus being on them. This will settle a lot of questions that everyone has. There have been several people looking in area's for Beth. For her personal belongings. Nothing. Nothing has been found. Not one word. Birthdays, holidays, without one word from Beth. Beth had a hugh heart. She was flawed just like everyone of us. She had secrets just like most of us. She wasn't perfect. Neither are we. And because of this I know it makes it harder to find her. But she deserves to be brought home. Her family deserves answers. They can handle the truth. They know almost everything she was afraid to tell them. But now they need to know what happened to Beth and if it wasn't a accident they need that person or persons brought to justice.

I believe pressure from outside i.e., IL Attorney Generals office is needed to answer the question of why!

I'm not so sure the Attorney Generals office is going to be able to assist unless the family themselves demand that they intervene. From what I can gather is that the ISP is only listing Endangered Missing Adults that they have an active role on investigating, such as Stacy Peterson and the others listed. So this brings us back to the "full circle" again. Why are other Police Departments not completing the necessary forms, or what are the requirements to have the Illinois State Police involved in the actual investigations of others missing? There are many "high profile" and missing cases that are also suspect of foul play such as Lisa Stebic? She is not listed. Bradley Olson? John Spira? Mark Miller? Jeanine Warner? Janet Tillman? Lee Cutler? Scott Arcaro? Jamie Harper? Was not the ISP involved in any of these cases? If not, why? If the cases cannot be solved on the local level, why are they not brought to the state level?
