Bob Jackson to run for MCC Trustee

Woodstock resident Bob Jackson has tossed his hat in the ring as a candidate for MCC Trustee. I’ve known Bob since about 2004. Keep an eye on this race; it should be very interesting! The following is a press release about Bob’s run for Trustee.

Robert S. Jackson Cites Unique Experience in MCC Trustee Bid

Woodstock—Robert S. Jackson of Woodstock announces his candidacy for Trustee of McHenry County College.  .

“I would like to contribute my academic, business, and other life experience to the people who will be creating the future of McHenry County, of the country, and of the world.” Jackson said.

After a distinguished career in academia, Jackson reinvented himself as an investment advisor in 1981 and since 1991 has been the owner of Oaktree Capital Corporation, a Registered Investment Advisor with offices in Chicago and Woodstock. The company offers portfolio management for individuals, families, corporations and trusts with special services to non-profits.

He is the author of John Donne’s Christian Vocation and of North American Gold Stocks: New Investment Opportunities and Strategies in U.S. and Canadian Gold Mining Stocks still considered the most authoritative text on the subject.

Raised in Beloit, Wisconsin and a Navy Veteran of World War II, Jackson earned his undergraduate degree from Beloit College and after study at Oxford University earned a Harvard University Divinity degree.  He continued his studies at the University of Michigan where he earned his Ph.D.

Jackson was a professor of English at Yale, St. Michaels College, Kent State University, and Rockford College.  As a consultant to the Board of Higher Education of Illinois and a founding faculty member of Sangamon State University (now the University of Illinois at Springfield) he gained experience in planning and developing an institution of higher learning.  

Jackson was one of the founders and a Board member of the Heartland Institute, a respected public policy think tank. He served several terms on the Board of Trustees of Shimer College and of the Illinois Conference of the United Church of Christ.

He also helped found and served on the boards of the Covenantal Community of University Church, an intentional living community in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood; Bridges, a Midwest social investment forum; the Global Abundance Alliance committed to causing “a new promise for the world;” and Nippersink Nickel and Dimers a socially responsible investment club.  He is a member of Chicago’s RotaryOne Club, The Mid-America Club, and of the Financial Planning Association, a professional organization for investment advisors.  He is an ordained Episcopal Priest and a member of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Woodstock (UUCW) and currently serves on its governing Church Council.

Jackson has been a Woodstock resident since 2002 and lives in the historic Peter Nestor House on Madison Street.
