Groundhog Day - it's coming!!!

Groundhog Day is almost here - again!

February 2nd is particularly meaningful in Woodstock, Ill., because this is where the movie was filmed. When you visit Woodstock, walk around and find the plaques. Put your foot on (in?) the one where Bill Murray stepped in the puddle - time after time.

Do you know there is a Woodstock Chapter of the Punxsutawney Groundhog Club?

The Chapter was formed a number of years ago, when ten "concerned" citizens anted up $10 and one coughed up the cost of the banner. Originally conceived as a social networking group, which might toast to the groundhog's well-being on a weekly basis throughout the year, the Club may be one of Woodstock's best-kept secrets.

Let 2011 be the Year of the Groundhog. The Chapter is completely independent of Woodstock's Committee for Groundhog Day, which means we can do what we want, when we want.

This Friday, January 7, 2011, help kick off the inaugural gathering (of 2011) at The Other Place ... at the Elks, 140 Cass St., Woodstock, just west of the Woodstock Chamber of Commerce, starting at 5:00PM. You don't have to be an Elk (or a Moose or a Groundhog or anything else) to show up and join in on the fun.

It's BYOB - Bring Your Own Bucks. There is a nice bar for your liquid refreshments and a Friday night menu with fish selections and a Special of the Day.

What else should you bring? In addition to having a good social time and meeting new men and women, let's do some business. Bring a pocketful of business cards and brochures or fliers about your business. Don't be bashful (or too pushy) about bragging about your business. Whether you are a photographer, Realtor, insurance agent, teacher, secretary, doctor, lawyer, Indian Chief, judge, florist, or just thinking about starting a new business, show up for some powerful AND FREE networking. Where else can you get that?

If you don't have a business card, you can get some (not in time for this Friday) from http://www.vistaprint.com/ or Copy Express or other local printing shops.
