2010 Federal Income Tax

Where are those pesky booklets with your tax forms? Did Uncle Sam forget you this year? Unfortunately, he did not. He has tightened the ol' belt several notches, and getting the forms has now become a do-it-yourself project.

You won't be getting the Federal income tax return forms in the mail this year. You can get them at www.irs.gov

Illinois tax returns? I don't know if Illinois will follow the Feds down the rabbit hole and abandon the mailing out of tax booklets. For Illinois forms, go to www.illinois.gov and hunt around.

From a recent email:

"The Center for Economic Progress will again provide free income tax counseling for families with annual incomes less than $50,000 and individuals with annual incomes less than $25,000 at McHenry County College beginning January 29th and continuing through April 18th. Volunteer tax preparers can assist in filling out federal and state income tax returns for the year 2010, and – in some cases – for prior years.

"Available hours include Wednesdays, from 5:30pm to 8pm, and Saturdays, from 10am to 1pm. Electronic filing is available. Documents needed include all W-2 and 1099 forms; a social security card or ITIN number for all household members, as well as a copy of 2009 tax returns; a photo ID; a copy of the most recent property tax bill (if applicable); the bank routing number and account number to direct deposit the refund; and the amount spent on college expenses (if
applicable).

"For additional information, call (888) 827-8511, or (312) 701-1326 (TTY)."
