Warrant served on man in prison?

On July 14 the Northwest Herald carried a story about charges filed against a man who allegedly supplied heroin to a man who died on Super Bowl Sunday 2010. Erik Strickland, 30, was charged with drug-induced homicide, a Class X felony, and he had a date with Judge Prather on July 23 for a "status-warrant."

On July 23 the case was continued to January 14, 2011, almost six months. There is probably some good legal maneuver for not serving the warrant on him; it's not like they don't know where he is. Maybe the clock doesn't start ticking until the warrant is served. Does it need to be served within a certain interval to remain valid?

Clearly, Erik is not going anywhere, because he is already a guest of the Illinois Department of Corrections (IDOC) and is residing at the Centralia Correctional Facility. Erik is no stranger to IDOC, and he'll be there until his parole date of 2/28/2013.

We can assume from your article that you know this guy. So my question is, WHO CARES? Are you hoping this repeat felon gets some kind of benefit from you article? You know Gus, if you were to become Sheriff there are certain types of people you can't associate with anymore. Drug addicted felons are a group you will have to stay away from. Are you capable of doing that?

I think the last thing a conservative, or a liberal for that matter, cares about is what happens to a heroin dealer who is responsible for killing a junkie. This article will probably not help your image as a viable law enforcement official. You care more about junkies than you do civil servants.

And another thing. I saw the magnet you made for your car in one of your previous articles. It says "VOTE". It doesn't say vote for you. And your wanted poster says "A Great Sheriff", you are not a sheriff. Who is advising you? You must have some friends that can tell you your campaign is a joke.

What I'm wondering about is why a warrant can't get served almost immediately on an imprisoned felon.

He has been charged. Serve the warrant. Commence the prosecution. Why wait until January for an update?

THAT's my complaint.
