the 3/50 project

Recently, a local Woodstock businessowner called my attention to this project. What is it?

Ask yourself this question: "What three independently-owned businesses in Woodstock would you miss if they disappeared?

For me?

Apple Creek Flowers
DeCraene's Auto Service
Read Between the Lynes Bookstore

Think about this, which is from the Project's website: "For every $100 spent in locally-owned independent stores, $68 returns to the community in taxes, payroll, and other expenditures. If you spend that in a national chain, only $43 stays here. Spend it online and nothing comes home."

Check it out at www.the350project.net/

Four independently-owned businesses are listed under Woodstock (Ill.):
Apple Creek Flowers
Cedar & Sage
The Thoughtfulness Shop
Tropical TanSpa

Two local organizations are listed as Sponsors:
Stassen Insurance Agency, Inc.
Woodstock Chamber of Commerce & Industry

For me, TMB would like to see the following run outta town:
1. McDonalds (pathetic entrance/exit)
2. McHenry County Sheriff (no-brainer)
3. The Woodstock Advocate (DOH!)

Keepers are:
1. Woodstock Animal Clinic
2. Any & all Liquor Stores
3. Sewing Source

DOH.
