Rumors have been circulating that McHenry County Sheriff's Department EEO officer Donald Leist has been driving a black Mercedes-Benz sedan that was confiscated in a drug arrest. True? False?
I don't know how this black Mercedes (click on the image for a larger view) came to be parked today in the Sheriff's own reserved parking spot. (Well, actually, I do.) Either Keith is driving it or he is out-of-town and someone else parked this Mercedes in the Sheriff's parking spot reserved for Unit 501. I have seen the sheriff's white Tahoe with its notable license plate (in my files and on file at the Woodstock Police Department)in the same Unit 501 parking spot.
Isn't this a rather fancy and expensive car for a salaried, non-law enforcement employee of the Sheriff's Department to be driving for commuting to and from work? What do you suppose is the price tag on the "company" car? $100,000? More? In fact, why should he get a take-home car at all?
Aren't confiscated cars supposed to be used in the activity for which they were seized? If this vehicle was seized in a drug bust, then isn't it supposed to be used in drug-busting enforcement?

I have been told that if you go to Federal Court in Rockford on the days Seipler v. Cundiff is in session you will see EEO Leist driving a similar looking vehicle. I've also been told that EEO Leist likes to make off the cuff remarks to in an attempt to intimidate a former deputy who accused the Sheriff of committing crimes. Some EEO he is huh?
