Who is this masked person? Man? Woman? (click on the image to enlarge it.)
The photo is of one of two (or was it three?) protesters last Friday night outside Vaughan's Restaurant in Woodstock, where Tonya Franklin was conducting a phone bank to rally McHenry County precinct committeemen to attend Saturday's Special Meeting.
This person's buddy was carrying a sign with "Pedophiles" on it, which caused me to wonder, and ask, whether the two were pedophiles. There was no response. Did that mean "Yes"?
First guesses were that the two were men; then the guesses shifted to their being women, based on views of the front of this person as he (she?) ran past a videocamera.
The portion of the face visible under the eye mask seems, to me, to indicate male. Is there a beginning of a "5 o'clock shadow" (even though it was about 7 o'clock)?
The other person had on a full-face mask to disguise appearance and identity. If these persons can be identified, inquiry will be made to law enforcement about the illegality of appearing in public with masks to hide identity.
Interested in a reward? Don't call Woodstock Area Crime Stoppers. They are going out of business, and its President and lawyer don't respond to e-mail. Don't call Crime Stoppers of McHenry County, either, which has sucked up the remaining $2,000 from Woodstock Area Crime Stoppers' reward fund.
Email your tips to Gus@WoodstockAdvocate.com (The reward is small, so don't buy your tickets for a cruise yet.)
Anonymity is assured. You know, if Nygren (with the help of a subpoena in a Federal Court case) can't pry out of me the names of any deputies who might ever have provided me with dirt from the sheriff's department, that no one is going to get your name out of me.
So, who is that masked man? (or woman?)

There is not a law against hiding your identity in public.
Gosh.....
You know better than that.
Know Better, are you sure about that? Check out Georgia Code Title 16 - Crimes and Offenses,16-11-38.
(a) A person is guilty of a misdemeanor when he wears a mask, hood, or device by which any portion of the face is so hidden, concealed, or covered as to conceal the identity of the wearer and is upon any public way or public property or upon the private property of another without the written permission of the owner or occupier of the property to do so.
No similar law is shown for Illinois on http://www.anapsid.org/cnd/mcs/maskcodes.html, but that does not mean there is not such a law in Illinois.
One law enforcement officer guesses the person in the photo to be male and age 38-42.
Dude looks like a lady.
But is wearing a Bears cap. Dead give away that is a man that likes to pick losers. LOL joking all you bears fans. :)
You know ... the more I think about this incident, the more I believe it was a publicity stunt.
First, whom among us knew whatsername was having a phone bank where? See. It just makes no sense, two nuts holding a bad, hastily penned sign out in front of Vaughn where no one knew anything was happening.
Then, someone (presumably at the phone bank) notices them and wants to take a video? Mmmmkay.
The total give away to this entire funfest is that the nutjobs wrote "pedophile" on the sign (which suggests that the nutjobs were Catholic, to me, because that is a Catholic's worst insult .. due to the whole priesty thing). I would make a guess here who the nutjobs were but I have a question first. Is Cal a Catholic?
Lastly, to infer that this tea bagger lady would have a chance against Franks is just plain funny. Gus you seem to think that being on a ballot is the same as being elected ... trust me, thank god it's not.
Ray, it would have taken just minutes from the first few calls to precinct committeemen for word of the phone bank to become known.
That was no "publicity stunt". It was an ugly smear tactic by some of those opposed to Tonya's efforts to get on the ballot.
Why wouldn't protesters be noticed outside the restaurant?
It's unfair to bring "Catholic" into this. People of many religions don't like pedophiles.
Why would you think Tonya would not have a chance against Jack Franks? It would take a lot of hard work by many people to beat any wealthy, entrenched incumbent.
Have you already forgotten the Joe Walsh/Melissa Bean race?
Perhaps I wasn't clear. I remember the Melissa Bean/Phil Crane race (which is a better analogy to this race). The only way Bean won was that Phil had a few "issues" ifyaknowwhudImean.
The Joe and Melissa Show was simply a Republican winning in an area where there are a very high percentage of republican ... and Bean missed some opportunities to lock down the office with Republicans (which Franks hasn't missed).
If Franks was a weak candidate, sure, maybe some hard work would topple him, however I have heard more than ten people suggest that his next run may be for GOV. That makes it so difficult to win against him, that suggesting otherwise is just hilarious. Which is what I meant.
Now that I have set the groundwork for what a joke race that would have been, let's consider your suggestion that somehow "Franks Secret Society" would:
a. Detect the phone bank
b. and care ...
c. then take action
d that the action would be to don
a black wig and a mask
I am postive that you can't look at that list and figure out what a long shot that was. This is because people who are close to an idea, often can't appreciate how silly it is .... I believe this because I saw the pictures on Cal's page where you were sitting right next to Franklin.
It's ok to have dreams, And see your fight as a David vs. Goliath battle ... but realize that except in the bible and movies ... David ends up crushed
Ray, you are the one saying that Jack Franks had something to do with the pedophile protesters. I have never said that.
Ray, quite often, wherever I go, I sit in the front row. I can hear; I can see; I can take pictures. What does sitting "right next to" Tonya have to do with anything? I was glad to sit by her. The morning was planned around her effort. Right?
Right now there is no one in Illinois politics who ought to be Governor.
Yes Gus, I can see how you read my post which, at length, explained how Jack Franks, Inc. could have, would have and should have absolutely nothing to do with this, and then suggest that:
I was the one who brought up Jack Franks.
Priceless Gus ... absolutely priceless.
One question: Who do you think was behind this absolutely-made-up WigandMaskgate?
Your answer: Whatsernames opponent. Rhymes with Banks.
One other question: How does a person write if they can't read.
Answer: not well.
How the Northwest Herald doesn't pick up your column is a deep mystery to me.
Or better yet, it was a vast Republican precinct committeeman conspiracy.
Upon finding out that whatsername was trying to get on the ballot to be soundly beaten by JF for reasons stated above, a precinct committeeman decided to take a sharpy and make a sign on some cardboard then drive to Vaughn's and hold up the sign infront of traffic or people going into Vaughns because that sounds like a really terrific plan.
Huh?
Oh and the face beneath the mask looks vaguely familiar ... I know I have seen it before. Cal knows all the republicans I am sure he could recognize the face.
