Loading Zone Needed

Is a loading zone needed on Dean Street alongside Angelo's Restaurant, so that delivery trucks can park in the mornings without interfering with traffic?
Obviously, delivery trucks need to stop to unload. So why not create a loading zone, say from 6:30-9:30AM?

I have made this suggestion to City Hall over the past couple of years. The second time, I was told it would be considered. There is a traffic problem on Dean Street, when trucks park and block the northbound lane. Traffic on Dean Street is forced to drive around parked trucks, and drivers turning right off Van Buren Street at the Opera House are surprised to find oncoming vehicles in their lane.

Will it take a head-on crash by an inattentive driver to result in action? How big of a deal would it be to take out 2-3 parking spaces and give these truck drivers a legal place to park?

Take out two or three parking spots. Great idea, there is not a parking problem as it is. The speed limit on the square is only about 15 mph, so Gus the law abiding citizen that you are shouldn't have any head on collisions with a big box truck unloading at Angelos. Get Real Gus. have you been to a BIG city where this is just part of life!??

Anonymous is right - even though there's more than enough parking around the Square, the lazy merchants and their employees don't use it ... when's the last time the Throop Street parking lot was even half full? Maybe the big fat tubs that work on the Square should try walking a few blocks so that the parking spaces can be used by their cistomers and clients ... and why establish a loading zone for a delivery vehicle that is there for only 5 to 10 minutes? I bet if you check with that cute Police Chief or those muscular fellows in the Police Department, you'll find that there haven't been any accidents at that site for the last 20 years (except when a fat tub had too much to drink and slippped on some bacon grease dribbling out of Angelo's litchen. My friend Robby M. says that if you have dry skin, eating lunch at Angwelos for three days will result in dramatic changes ... a shiny complexion and vibrant body odor). Gus, you da' man. Snoozer
