If you are going to get stopped, you want to hope it will be by L.A. Sheriff's Deputy Elton Simmons. He has a record number of complaints: ZERO
Do we have any "Elton Simmonses" around here?

Gus, one of the first things we were taught in police school was to start out with "the bar" low when dealing with people. You can always raise it if need be but you usually can't lower it. Unfortunately a few of my colleagues were sleeping during that class. I have ALWAYS treated people with respect and courtesy my entire career much like Officer Simmons does. And it worked. I had very few beefs filed against me and those that were, were unsustained. I didn't do a lot of traffic enforcement as most of my work was done inside project buildings on the south and west sides of Chicago. But when I did, I always tried to reduce the amount of tension in those situations by approaching people in the same manner as Officer Simmons. A smile and a sir or mamm (sic?)goes a long way.
