July 5 - holiday or not?

When I was at the Woodstock Public Library today, I asked about next week's schedule and was surprised to be told the the Library will be open on Monday, July 5. Isn't that when the Fourth of July holiday is celebrated, because July 4 falls on a Sunday this year?

Will City Hall be open? The Community Calendar does not indicate that Woodstock City Government offices are to be closed on Monday. Go to www.woodstockil.gov and scroll down on the homepage to the calendar.

The County? Closed. You betcha.

Woodstock District 200 schools and offices? Closed.

What's up with the City of Woodstock? Did employees decide to work this 4th of July?

The Fourth of July federal holiday is celebrated on July 4. Thus the name for the holiday.

Private and public entities may, if they choose, to give employees a Friday or Monday off, if the holiday falls on a Saturday or Sunday. There is no requirement to do so, however.

I suspect that the only city employees that are working on Sunday, July 4, are the ones that have been scheduled to work on that federal holiday. And since the city's fireworks display occurs on July 4, there will be some city employees working- I imagine the Emricson Park event would be a bit sloppy without some city employees on site.
