July 4th - not a holiday

"We don't consider it a holiday here."

Oh, really? I had called Woodstock (Ill.) City Hall this morning to ask why City Hall is open today.

I'm sure I'll get a more politically-correct answer very soon.

What more important holiday in the U.S.A. is there?

Did employees get the day off on Good Friday?

Will they get the day off after Thanksgiving? Will City offices close on Christmas Eve?

Earth to Gus....the fourth is a holiday. The fifth is not.

And when it falls on a Saturday or Sunday? Does not the day before or the day after become the "celebrated holiday"?

Banks are closed today. County offices are closed today.
