Ridgefield welcomes Metra - NOT

Yesterday I drove through Ridgefield on the way back to Woodstock from MCC and spotted these signs near the proposed third Crystal Lake Metra station. These folks in unincorporated McHenry County do not want a Metra station, and they aren't just being fiscally responsible (for Metra's benefit).

They don't want their quiet community destroyed by wider roads and a considerable increase in traffic flow.

And is there anyone in the County (or anywhere) who thinks an MCC student is going to hoof it from such a station to campus? As it is right now, they cruise the parking lot hoping to find a space in the front row of parked cars, so they don't have to walk an extra 50 feet!

Or will Woodstock's "let's be like Disney" grab a toe-hold in Ridgefield? Maybe Metra is planning to put in a monorail.

Cal Skinner beat me to the punch with his article and photo on www.mchenrycountyblog.com/ That'll teach me to wait until morning to write.
