Back to the Future (I hope)

Tonight (5/11/2010) is the regular monthly meeting of the Dorr Township Trustees. Where and when? Dorr Township office, 140 Newell St., Woodstock. 7:30PM.

The Agenda for tonight's meeting was just published this morning, after 8:00AM. Up for discussion tonight, in Executive Session, is consideration of applications for the Town Clerk's position and interview of the candidates, and then, after returning to Open Session, "... to consider the selection of a person to fill the vacancy (of Town Clerk)". [Does this mean they can only "consider" the selection?]

Also on the agenda, as an item ahead of the Executive Session, is "8. Discussion and action regarding the compensation for the Deputy Clerk." This will occur in open session.

Is this item premature? Will Trustees appoint a Clerk tonight? Have the Trustees already reviewed the applications and vetted those who are considered qualified and eligible? Background checks done? Digital fingerprints forwarded to appropriate agencies to confirm eligibility to hold the office of Town Clerk? Is there a drug test required to fill a position by appointment?

If the Trustees appoint a Town Clerk tonight, then no Deputy Clerk will be needed. So why are they going to discuss and take action on compensation for the Deputy Clerk's position?

Remember when the words were said that there is no compensation for the Deputy Clerk? Who uttered those infamous words?

Check out the format of the May 11th Agenda, especially Item 9 and Item 9 and the sub-items.

I was glad to see that the April 15, 2010 Agenda was removed from the website, because it read that the "next meeting" would be Tuesday, May 12, 2009.
