CSU reverses, allows concealed carry on campus

On February 26 I wrote about the Colorado State University (CSU) decision to ban concealed carry of handguns on campus. Since then, a lot has happened.

The result? The Board of Governors of CSU has reversed itself. It's going to follow state law, after all. In a victory for the students, who had previously been allowed to carry guns on campus legally, and the Students for Concealed Carry on Campus Association, the University on May 5 announced,

"The Colorado State University System Board of Governors today voted unanimously to rescind its action of Feb. 23, 2010 relating to implementation of campus weapons control policies in light of a recent Colorado Court of Appeals ruling (Apr. 15, 2010) regarding the Colorado Concealed Carry Act.

"Because of the change in the law as a result of the court decision, the board has directed the individual campus presidents to work with legal counsel to revise and implement appropriate weapons control policies that are compliant with state law. Since the weapons control policies were not implemented on the campuses, the campuses will operate as status quo until such time as the revised policies are developed.

"The board's decision is effective immediately."

Of course, now students and the public will have to keep a watchful eye for the "revised" policies, in case some of those folks have ties to Chicago.
