Harrison County (Mississippi) Deputy Justin Branning is "just" doing his job. Branning has arrested more than 300 drunk drivers in each of the past three years. MORE than 300 in EACH of the past three years. Working the same territory, the same roads, the same shift. (Source: http://www.dwihitparade.com/; see link to the right)
Kudos to Deputy Branning. How does that compare with activity around here? What are the statistics for DUI arrests in McHenry County?
Where in the world is Harrison County? Try Gulfport, Miss. and Biloxi area.
Population 187,105 (2010 Census). Compare that with 308,760 for McHenry County, Ill.
What else is Harrison County known for?
"Harrison County has received coverage on CNN and other media regarding the beatings of inmates, and the death of inmate Jessie Lee Williams Jr., who died while in custody on Feb. 4, 2006, which have occurred in the Harrison County Jail ini Gulfport, Mississippi. In 2006 and 2007, six Harrison County Sheriff's Department deputies pled guilty to crimes related to the abuse of inmates at the jail. Not to take anything away from the deputy but that area has no fewer than eight, count them, EIGHT casinos. Seems to me that any officer looking to arrest drunks would be limited only by his own energy and the number of hours in the day. THAT's a big difference between Harrison Co and McHenry Co, don't you think?
Steve, I'll agree with you. But when you think about all the bars in McHenry County and its municipalities, we probably ought to have 50 times the number of DUI arrests that we have.
The bars are probably having a tough time staying in business as it is. And certainly DUI processing needs to be streamlined, so that a deputy or officer is not tied up three times as long as the drunk driver is being processed.
If drinking and driving are illegal, why do bars exist?
