For the governor to attempt to promote his stand against concealed carry by posing a recent widow in front of the press is a sick move.
Gov. Quinn stood beside Jennifer Loudon, the wife (widow) of slain Chicago Police Officer Thor Soderberg, to oppose conceal carry. Ofc. Soderberg was killed on July 7, 2010.
"I cannot imagine a reason you need to carry a concealed, loaded weapon unless you're willing to use it on another human being," Loudon said."I do not want another family to ever have go through what our family has had to go through."
No one wants anyone to go through what Mrs. Loudon has gone through. But her husband was killed by a murderer who took away the officer's own gun. That has absolutely nothing to do with law-abiding citizens' carrying concealed weapons.
Ms. Loudon has the reason exactly right. That is the reason to carry a concealed, loaded weapon. And the other human being to use it on would be a criminal intending to kill or inflict serious injury on another person.
Gov. Quinn's act was a stupid, senseless, insensitive act. For that he owes an apology to the People of Illinois! He could make amends for it by resigning tonight.
Or let's have Pat Quinn give up his bodyguards and then go about his business, including trips to and from his office in Chicago. I think he'll sing a different tune quite soon. And the same with Rahm Emanuel and soon-to-be ex-Mayor Daley. No bodyguards. No concealed weapons. No protection on the dangerous streets of Chicago.
If they gave up their bodyguards, this state would have a concealed-carry law in 24 hours! And it would be effective immediately.
