Forty-nine weeks. Almost a year. Beth Bentley has been missing for almost a year. And the leads?
Round Lake Park P.D. found their missing resident in a little over one week. How quickly did they determine that maybe she wasn't really "missing", after all?
Beth Bentley has always been classified as "Missing" by the Woodstock Police Department. Very quickly she was labeled "missing", as if she had run away. Perhaps that was in large part because of a statement, purportedly made by her traveling companion of the week-end and friend, Jennifer Wyatt, that Jennifer had dropped Beth off at or near the Centralia (Ill.) Amtrak station.
Then Beth was classified as "Missing - Endangered", although "endangered" has never been explained by anyone from the Woodstock Police Department, other than in general terms that could apply to any person. Wouldn't "endangered" mean that she was without needed medications or without necessary medical aids or treatment or at risk because of threats? Nothing like that has ever been stated.
At first, there was a lot of activity on a Facebook page created by a neighbor. It grew pretty quickly to about 8,000 followers. Then bickering, blaming and in-fighting blew it up, and one of the "administrators" (actually, an illogical term) tore it apart and deleted many followers and comments. Whatever might has existed as possible leads to finding Beth was gone.
A second Facebook page was started by others, and then it shut down.
The first Facebook page then took on the appearance of solving the problems of many missing women and lost focus on the friend for whom it was started.
WebSleuths.com had many active sections devoted to Bentley, and then the administrator had to shut off Beth's content.
Nancy Grace was briefly involved, as well as the Cue Center for Missing Persons and somebody called Susan Milano Murphy. Her blog about Beth headed south really fast with all the vicious comments.
What is happening is a serious of deflections, misdirections, red herrings, along with malicious accusations and threats, to reduce or eliminate the attention to the FACT that Beth Bentley has been missing since May 20, 2010. She was last seen in Woodstock at her son's baseball game and at the Dairy Queen. And after that?
The Woodstock Police Department has been characteristically close-mouthed. No talk of crime in Woodstock? Therefore, there must be no crime. Wrong.... Every month there should have been a press conference about the missing woman. Whether the family wants it or not!
Who is the family to speak up for a woman who has now been missing for 49 weeks? Why has there been so little outcry to find this woman? None of the rumors matters. What matters is that a woman who was alive on May 20 is not accounted for!
Two Crime Stoppers' rewards of "up to $1,000" has been offered. Has a Crime Stoppers EVER paid out a reward in McHenry County of $1,000? In 2009 the rewards averaged $300! What are they saving their money for? A rainy day? More banquets at the Woodstock Country Club?
There might have been a third reward of $3,000, but no one has ever been identified as the person or persons offering it. Does it even exist today?
The Woodstock Police Department should go back to Square One and start over. Trace every step, starting with where she sat at her son's baseball game and who was there with her or knew she was there. Trace her steps to the DQ. Who drove? Who was in the car? When was the rental car reserved and picked up? Who paid for it? Why was Beth's car parked in Jennifer's garage?
Having just watched The Client last night, I'd say to start looking at basement floors and any concrete poured after May 20! Re-interview every person who had any connection to Beth. Bring in fresh investigators, say from the State Police, who haven't heard the story and who don't think everything has been tried.
Check out every story of out-of-town travel by anyone with any connection to Beth, whether in-state or out-of-state.
No one has been cleared in this case, despite statements by some who say so. It's a deflection, a deception.

Thank You Gus for keeping Beth's story out there.
Is it me, or am I the only one alarmed at the lack of action on this case?
The husband has done zilch and moved on mere weeks after Beth "went missing".
Beth's friends are silent.
Beth's best friend has obviously lied again and again about the last weekend anyone saw Beth alive.
MAYBE, if those that have the resources start digging, this mother's "disappearance" can be solved.
I always hear about cases where one determined detective never gives up, and ends up solving the case (cold cases). Where is Beth's determined officer?
A person doesn't just drop off the face of the earth ... and loving family and friends don't lie, misdirect, and stay silent hoping the publicity simply goes away. That is unheard of, unless you don't want the person to be found.
There is plenty of huge red flags here that need to be revisited, and pressure put on her best friend that has lied.
The mere fact that those close to Beth are silent and waiting for this to "just go away" speaks volumes.
