Service Tax - on the way?

Today I received the following email from Illinois Sen. Dan Rutherford (R-53rd District (Photo)). I met Dan a year ago when I was in Springfield for Illinois Gun Owners' Lobbying Day, and he was very gracious with his time to see me. I encourage you to support CLA financially and to express your opinion to your elected State representatives and senators now, before they create such a tax.
"In the Spring Legislative Session, the State Senate Democratic Majority passed the largest income tax increase in Illinois history, but that pales in comparison to what else was in the legislation. The bill also created the first in Illinois, tax on services. It now awaits action in the Democratic controlled House.
"The new tax on services would be on cable TV, dry cleaning, bowling, pet grooming, internet service, gym memberships, sports tickets and diaper service, to name a few. I believe now is not the time for your government to take any more money from your purse or wallet. I voted against the legislation. No Republican voted for it.
"I am chairman of the 'Committee for Legislative Action' (CLA), which has been bringing sunlight to tax and fee increase attempts since 1995. This Administration has definite plans to raise our taxes. We need your help to stop the momentum.
"CLA is funded by voluntary contributions and NOT taxpayer dollars. Will you donate a modest amount to help fight the Service Tax? Your gift of $44 for a roll of stamps will go a long way; larger amounts are welcome and any amount is appreciated. You may donate online at https://egon.cmititestbank.com/cla/contribute/contribute.asp
"With your support we can rally even more opposition to the service tax increase proposed by the ruling majority in Springfield. Together, we can make a difference. Thank you!
"Please visit our website http://www.CommitteeForLegislativeAction.org for current news articles, statistics and survey results. Thank you for your help!
"Sincerely,
Dan Rutherford
