On Saturday afternoon, December 31, paramedics from the Wauconda Fire District responded to a call to an address on State Road (Route 176), between the Fox River and South River Road, after they received a call at 2:48PM from a relative of the home's occupants, who were reported as deceased.
Upon arrival, rescue personnel exercised caution, as they did not know what had transpired. An Island Lake Police officer also arrived and motioned rescue personnel into the house. Using caution because of the possibility of carbon monoxide, personnel located a man and a woman, neither of whom was living. Fire Department personnel recorded no measurable CO levels
Wauconda Rescue notified the office of the McHenry County Coroner, and its report indicates that deputies of the McHenry County Sheriff's Department took control of the scene.
I would like to express appreciation to the Wauconda Fire District for its prompt response to this morning's FOIA request. There was no hesitation or reluctance to provide its report.
There was no stone-walling, and there was none of the unwillingness to respons that was demonstrated by the Office of the McHenry County Coroner and the McHenry County Sheriff's Department. While some type of investigation might be in progress by either or both, there is no reason whatsoever for the Sheriff's Department or the Coroner's Office to refuse preliminary details.
A preliminary news release could have been made to the media in time for Sunday's papers. Instead, here we are at Wednesday, and nothing has been reported yet by the Northwest Herald. Why not?
