Citizens' group forms to fight taxes

A new citizens' group has formed in McHenry County to help in the fight against increasing taxes. The group, McHenry Citizens TaxWatch (TaxWatch), was formed by Bob Anderson and David Yang, both of Wonder Lake, in mid-December.

Its mission is to object to and defeat property tax referendums and lobby for legislation for the following:

1.  Once a taxing body places a referendum on the ballot, another cannot appear back on the ballot for 2 years.
2.  Eliminate the right for teachers to strike.
3.  Reform the way public education is funded.
As an example, McHenry School District 156 sought a referendum in November 2010, and it failed. Now it's right back at the public's neck (or wallet) with a referendum in April.

It's kind of like when your kid is nagging you for more allowance. If he keeps at it, you might just give up. Anderson and Yang think you ought to get a little breather after you say "No".

On Sunday, March 13, 2011, at 1:00PM TaxWatch will host a townhall meeting with featured speaker, Jim Tobin, founder of National Taxpayers United of Illinois. The meeting will be held at Christ the King Church, 5006 East Wonder Lake Road, Wonder Lake, Ill.

For more information, call Bob Anderson at 815.653.9865 or 815.653.7699 or by email to thebobber@inbox.com
Better yet, stop in for a haircut (you'll love the prices - and the haircut) and buy a stack of business cards for TaxWatch for $1.00 each.

Reforming the way public education is funded is not the same as limiting the frequency of referendums. Think property tax versus income tax.

Hey Bob...Stop whining and crying and run for office and do something about what you've bitching about. Your "community activism" has reaped NO benefits for the 25+ years you've been around. Jump in the political ring or SHUT THE F*** UP. At least Gus ran for Sheriff.
