Over the week-end I wrote about the lawsuit filed in April against a former jailer (oh, the P.C. term is Corrections Officer), Sheriff Nygren and the County of McHenry. A female inmate alleged that a male jailer had committed sexual misconduct last year.
In a separate incident a female jailer got some time off (three days without pay, as I hear it, and a few weeks off with pay) for some inappropriate interaction with a male inmate.
So the questions become 1) why are female inmates in contact with male jailers? and 2) why are male inmates in contact with female jailers?
Isn't this just asking for trouble? And, when you ask for something, you often get it. Hence, one more civil rights lawsuit against the sheriff's department. Who is defending the sheriff on this one? The State's Attorney's Office or an outside law firm?
What would happen if the McHenry County Sheriff's Department established work rules and employee assignments that precluded such contact? Might this serve two important purposes?
Number one, it would protect inmates from any jailers who might be tempted to use their control ("power"; authority) over a captive audience (no pun intended) in an inappropriate way. (Not that anyone carefully selected, hired, trained and adequately supervised would ever do so.)
Secondly, it would protect jailers (employees) from unfair charges against them that they used their positions of control to force inmates of the opposite gender to yield to sexual improprieties.
What do jail personnel think of the current system?
Of course, I understand that they will not be permitted to say what they think. General Orders preclude their speaking out in any way that might be considered as "against" the Department.
Things are going to be different, come December 1st. The muzzles will come off. If employees have a gripe or a suggestion, I shall want to hear it.
Who usually knows best how to fix a problem at work? The people who work there! You don't always have to call in expensive consultants to identify problems and solutions. First, you ask your employees what is wrong and what needs to be done to fix it.

Male CO’s for male and Female CO’s for females? Schedules do not permit this and furthermore it is it required. The federal hiring standards could not be changed to allow only MALE or Female CO's be hired. Since there are probably 10/1 male prisoners to female prisoners would you fire female CO's to have a 10/1 ratio of male CO's to Female CO's? What about GAY CO's? Wouldn’t they be just as prone to hit on a same sex prisoner?
Your idea is a ludicrous knee jerk reaction Sheriff Gus.
Our infamous female Latin King correctional officer is untouchable. She gets away with whatever she wants now. Know why? Ask on of the 9 supervisors she has had relations with! I hear now she's dating a patrol sergeant. She has run the gambit of C.O. supes. Sgt's, Lt.'s even the Chief.I wish I had female parts of pleasure maybe then I could get a decent day off group.
Female Latin King c/o. give me a break. Ur sourse seems to be a little out of the loop. Sounds like ur sourse is feeln a little left, what, not gettin the attention he/she needs??? There has not been any relations with any supervisors,Sgt.Lt nor chief. What r they tryin to do ruin relationships??There is No dating of anyone. Id b the first to know.(BFF). Your sourse seems to be a little bitter and possibly a bit lonely. Get a life!!!! if your life is miserable dont make others miserable too.Move on to stuff that matters. Not gossip.
After reading "bubble"'s response, I'm more inclined to believe "notawannabe.C.O." even more.
I have the answer for the riddle, "What do how lawsuits begin and the way some pornos begin have in common?
Notawannabe.C.O., you would assume that if it is all true then the "infamous one" would file a suit against all those supervisors. One could argue that a subordinate being "passed around" like that was due to coercion or at least influenced by the supervisor-subordinate relationship. A classic sexual harassment suit like that would be worth millions.
