The McHenry County Lincoln 200th Birthday Committee is well under way with all of its plans to celebrate Illinois’ most revered President. The Committee is chaired by Tina Hill, McHenry County Board (R-Woodstock), with Honorary Chairs State Senator Pam Althoff (R-McHenry), State Rep. Jack Franks (D-Woodstock), State Rep. Mike Tryon (R-Crystal Lake), and Ken Koehler, Chairman of McHenry County Board (R-Crystal Lake).
Among the many events which are featured on the committee’s website, www.alincoln200.com, is a period birthday party planned for February 21, 2009 at the Dole Mansion catered by 1776, a Lincoln portrait contest, a Lincoln Penny project, a county book read of Lincoln: A Photobiography hosted by our county libraries in February with book club discussions scheduled, the recitation of Lincoln’s Gettysburg Address on February 12 at all levels of government and businesses throughout the county at 1:30pm, a Lincoln float in the community parades around the county, an afternoon with the Lincolns at McHenry County College on February 1, and the garden clubs planting trees in Lincoln’s honor and much more.
McHenry County municipalities have passed a supporting resolution and many have purchased banners for their lamp posts so that the whole county is uniquely celebrating this event. A logo and letterhead have been designed by Michael Stanard at One Zero Charlie and donated to the committee. Many other counties across the State and the City of Springfield as well as in Indiana and Kentucky are planning similar activities. Sponsorships will be available to advertise your business and support the events. Contributions can be made payable to the McHenry County Lincoln Birthday Committee in c/o Tina Hill and mailed to the McHenry County Government Center, 2200 N. Seminary Ave., Woodstock, IL. For more information or to get involved, contact Tina Hill at 815/347-4222.
