Carrying things too far

Don't miss this article at http://www.nwherald.com/blogs/entries/2008/12/31/48874504/

The McHenry Police over-reacted on a December 18 call, when they confronted an advertising solicitor at gunpoint and arrested him on a Disorderly Conduct charge, because a homeowner was "alarmed and disturbed". Bull!

According to the article, he and other employees from NorthWest Flyer Guys were hanging advertising on home door handles. A resident called the police when the resident heard the door handle rattle.

Can't wait for this one to get to court. It will be worth taking the day off to see and hear the testimony of the homeowner and the cops. Now, if the guy was breaking into the house and his feet were hanging out the window when the cops arrived, that's one thing. Where was he? On the sidewalk?

Are the McHenry cops so trigger-happy that they roll up on a call with guns drawn? Guess the guy is lucky he didn't get shot!

Pete Burwell should be thinking about filing a Disorderly Conduct against the homeowner and sucking the cops into it, too.

Nothing wrong with calling the cops and having them come and check out a situation. But check it out. But then arresting someone for Disorderly Conduct? Stupid, just plain stupid.
