N.O. Gun Seizure During Emergency

Too many people paid too little attention to the illegal gun seizures in New Orleans, supported by its Mayor C. Ray Nagin during the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

At a critical time when legally-armed residents needed to be able to defend themselves, they became hunted by the police, who confiscated their guns - often without even giving the required receipts.

And then, when owners tried to reclaim their guns, the police demanded receipts. No receipts? No return of the guns!

A search of that city's website for "gun seizure" reveals no results. How very interesting!

We must not allow anything like that to happen here.

I am contacting the NRA for a copy of its resolution that was offered to city governments and police departments around the country; a resolution by which government agrees to uphold the Second Amendment and to do nothing to illegally seizure privately-owned weapons. Will the City of Woodstock adopt such a Resolution?

In a time of civil unrest, guns will be like parachutes. It's better to have one and not need it, than to need it and not have it.
